07/06/2000 RIGHTSMARKET LEVERAGES $1.1 M CAPITAL INJECTION TO FURTHER ACCELERATE PARTNERSHIP AND CUSTOMER ACTIVITY
July 4, 2000 – With the recent infusion of additional capital, RightsMarket Inc. announced plans to accelerate its thrust into the scientific, technical and medical publishing communities with development on several new fronts, including audio-supported formats and players, a corporate-specific offering and the expansion of its platform offering. RightsMarket, a world leader in digital rights management (DRM), received $1.1 million this week when the balance of the 1999 Purchase Warrants was exercised, resulting in the issuance of an additional 1.588,450 common shares. “This infusion of capital will enhance our ability to get to market quickly with the solutions that publishers want today,” says Lindsay Moir, President and CEO of RightsMarket. “It will also help us to support the 12 pilots we currently have running and expand our position in e-publishing.”
E-publishing is one of the fastest growing industries, with sales estimated to reach $17.6 billion by 2004. RightsMarket offers publishers and content owners a way to tap this growing market by allowing them to fully leverage existing distribution channels and enable additional channels of incremental revenue. RightsMarket’s flagship product, RightsPublish, persistently protects and manages digital content and ensures that publishers are paid for their intellectual property.
RightsMarket has committed a portion of the new funds to the further advancement of three initiatives. The first is the development of secure audio-supported players and formats - an essential feature for publishers wishing to distribute multi-media content such as audio books and training materials. The second is the development of a corporate offering, which will allow businesses complete management of sensitive internal documents (such as financial or medical records) and optionally enable them to track usage on a persistent basis. The third is a development initiative to support the Macintosh platform, allowing Macintosh users to participate in the secure consumption of digital property. The addition of Macintosh support, together with the recent alliance with Ansyr Technology, fully rounds out the platforms supported by RightsMarket’s DRM technology, which now includes Windows CE, Palm and other hand-held computing environments.
