No I remember when Russians would pay a months salary for a pare of Levi's and stand in Toilet paper lines for hours. While Japanese grabbed market share with production prowess and cheap high quality products.
The Genie is out of the bottle in both cases.
Russians are now buying everything in a freeer market as well as the rest of the communist world, and Japanese have run out of cost advantages and now have to compete on an equal footing. US Innovation and leadership in Technology has lead to the economic factors you mention.
Go play boogy-man somewhere else.
There are now 6 billion consumers in the world. They will not go away tomorrow. The world economy is much less fragile than the fragmented ones of old.
