Mani, Re: Compaq T-Birds?

Saw this over on RB (Spinynorman, ragingbull.com

BIG NEWS! - Compaq T-Bird!!!

I just got off the phone with Compaq sales at 1.800.888.0220, saying I'd noticed that
their web site has changed the Presario 7000 model number to 7000Z, and wondering
if that was the T-Bird (it still shows Athlon/Enhanced 3DNow)... the sales guy said that
yes the 7000Z was the T-Bird, but that he wasn't sure if it was actually available yet..
and went off to check for me....

YES!!!!!

The Presario 7000Z is a T-Bird, and it is available!!!

It's a pretty slick looking machine too (kinda I-Mac'y).

Went to Compaq web-site and it still says "Performance Enhancing Cache." Maybe the web site updates are as slow as Compaq's inventory turns?

[EDIT: Oops. Still trying to catch up on RB and found this update (http://www.ragingbull.com/mboard/boards.cgi?board=AMD&read=23784)

Conflicting information!

I just spoke to someone else in Compaq sales, who told me that the 7000Z is still
Athlon, but that T-Bird is coming "later this month"... he said it would be the slot, which
would seem to imply that Compaq's socket-A mobo will be used for Duron (although
AMD used it in their benchmarks for T-Bird).

What's also interesting is that the salesguy volunteered without me asking that if I was
calling about the Gateway problem that it was a Gateway only problem, and would not
affect Compaqs T-Bird system. I guess that's good news at least (although expected),
but I was rather hoping to see a socket-A T-Bird!
