an analyst opinion
I like Golden State just because of its valuation ' it's a little
cheaper than Washington Mutual. Again, this is a cash earnings story.
They have a fair amount of goodwill for the past acquisitions, and they
have one of the large goodwill lawsuits against the government for
supervisory goodwill. You're not paying for it because it's not in that
stock; it's free. And you never know whether they're going to collect or
not, although Congress did set aside money to fund those lawsuits
several years ago. We've had several different rulings from judges. I'm
not saying I own it because of that, but it's nice because you're not
paying for it, and one day the judge might rule that they're going to
get a tremendous amount of money. So there are certainly several of
those names out there. That's one of the ones I own which has that
feature.
