I think "...testing under laboratory conditions may not be representative of performance in a production disk drive and there is a significant possibility that further testing, or technical or economic factors may make the incorporation of keepered media into MR-based drives impractical." is lawyer talk. Maxtor has to pay Ampex whether they use "keepered media" in inductive or MR drives. I think it is good news because Maxtor plans to have the MR drives available later this year.
