Orchid and PE Biosystems Establish
Licensing Agreement For Orchid's
SNP-IT(TM) Primer Extension

PRINCETON, N.J., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Orchid BioSciences, Inc. (Nasdaq:
ORCH) today announced that it has granted a non-exclusive license to PE
Biosystems (NYSE: PEB), a PE Corporation business, to use Orchid's
patented SNP-IT(TM) single base primer extension technology for single
nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis in PE Biosystems' ABI PRISM(R)
reagent kits, including SNaPshot(TM) ddNTP Primer Extension kits. Under the
terms of the agreement, PE Biosystems will produce and market kits that are
licensed under U.S. patents 5,888,819 and 6,004,744, which are owned by
Orchid and cover Orchid's SNP-IT technology for performing SNP analyses.
