Maybe Joe is right - I was a broker in 1972/3 - before that a fund executive - I remember all the unsuccessful attempts the Dow made at staying above 1000 - finally it happened - in 1982 - I'm sure none of us believed it was finally for real even then.

Now, I realise that gold has been above $300 - way above it - so it's not as if it's a barrier which hasn't been broken before - but a market in the doldrums doesn't always stay that way. And it isn't true to say that nobody is buying gold stocks - every day millions of shares are traded. If it wasn't so the stock prices would fall right off the board. But I have no idea what will turn it around.
