<< It's not the language, it's the living arrangements, and the lack of employment, and the willingness to exploit Elian, ... >> It is very convenient to think up reasons for disliking a family that is different. I am not saying that you are doing this, but there are very strong anti-Hispanic feelings, over the waving of the Cuban flag, their culture and because of the language, etc. The result: On every issue involving Cuban or Hispanic Americans, the Hispanics are on one side of the issue, everyone else is on the other side. Elian's case is no different. To me, the anti Elian, anti Cuban Exile backlash in this country sends a message of anti-immigrant, anti Hispanic prejudice. << You want to make it about race- that's a good tactic. >> I am but the poor messenger. << That's what was done in the OJ case. >> It wasn't "done" in the OJ case, it "was" the OJ case. << And it has nothing to do with race or nationality. >> Tell that to the jury. <g> --- |
