Canada's ZENON Environmental Wins $4 Million Contract For Largest Membrane Bioreactor Wastewater Treatment Plant In U.S.A. 15:26 EDT Thursday, July 06, 2000
OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--
ZENON's technology chosen to meet America's toughest environmental standards
ZENON Environmental Inc. (TSE: ZEN, ZEN.A) announced today that it has been awarded a contract, valued at over $4 million, to provide its unique ZeeWeed(R) membrane technology for a bioreactor wastewater treatment plant, being built in the city of American Canyon, in California's Napa Valley. When completed, the new facility will be the largest membrane wastewater plant in North America, capable of processing peak flows of more than 5 million gallons per day.
"American Canyon demands that its sewage water discharge be Title 22 certified - the highest standard in North America," said, Dr. Andrew Benedek, ZENON's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "At this level, the effluent is suitable for industrial reuse, without further treatment."
To reach this standard, American Canyon turned to ZENON's superior membrane technology.
"This contract recognizes the superior filtration provided by ZENON's ZeeWeed(R) technology at competitive operating costs," continued Dr. Benedek.
American Canyon joins many other municipalities, around the world, which are converting their water or wastewater treatment facilities to membrane based technology.
Last month, Olivenhain, California, started construction on its municipal ultrafiltration drinking water plant. While American Canyon's operation will be North America's largest municipal membrane bioreactor wastewater facility, once completed, Olivenhain will be North America's largest ultrafiltration drinking water plant.
"Water quality is a growing concern worldwide," said Dr. Benedek. "Increasingly we are seeing communities put in place stringent standards for water purity that conventional purification technology simply cannot deliver. These communities are moving to ZENON's proprietary membrane technology to ensure their water exceeds the most rigorous standards.
"California has the continent's most stringent water standards and is continuing the conversion to membrane technology for water treatment," Dr. Benedek said. "Our ZeeWeed(R) systems provide the means to meet the rigorous standards demanded for such large water volumes."
