SVG Receives 193 nm Lithography Order From Cypress Semiconductor
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Valley Group (Nasdaq: SVGI - news) Lithography Systems received another boost with the announcement that it has received an order for its Micrascan 193 step-and-scan lithography system from Cypress Semiconductor.

Cypress will use the tool for process development work at the 120 nm node. Delivery at Cypress' San Jose research and development facility is expected in the third quarter of this year. Cypress expects to start production at the 120 nm node by the third quarter of 2001.

``Confidence in our 193 nm lithography solutions continues to build as evidenced by this order from another new customer,'' explained John Shamaly, president of SVG Lithography Systems. ``Once again SVG finds itself well-placed to help customers transition to next-generation technologies. By establishing and maintaining our confidence in the all optical roadmap, we are able to offer the cutting-edge lithographic solutions that the semiconductor industry demands.''

Cypress Semiconductor provides high-performance integrated circuit solutions to the communications, telecommunications, computation, consumer products, and industrial-control markets. With a focus on emerging communications applications, Cypress's product lines include networking-optimized and micropower static RAMs; high-bandwidth multiport and FIFO memories; high-density programmable logic devices; timing technology for PCs and other digital systems; and controllers for Universal Serial Bus (USB).

According to Dr. Jose I. Arreola, vice president of research and development at Cypress, ``The Micrascan 193 offers the best solution for Cypress' 120 nm platform; it meets our specs for performance, process control, and delivery. We believe that the catadioptric lens design of SVG lithography will be a clear competitor at the 193 nm and the 157 nm lithography nodes.

``Cypress has been a long standing and solid SVG Thermal Systems customer,'' explained Papken Der Torossian, chairman of the board and CEO for SVG. ``Adding them as a lithography customer shows Cypress' confidence in our ability to provide the best solutions to the industry with solid customer service and support. This once again demonstrates the industry's expanding support for our 193 program.''
