From JC' notes on PCExpo00:

jc-news.com

Good news first:
"It was somewhat awkward, though, that the instant I stepped in and checked out the i815, some other fellow walked over and started complaining about how his i815 system at home is nonfunctional when more than one DIMM is placed onto the motherboard. No idea if that was resolved, but it's probably nothing major."

Comment: I would not be so quick for the easy conclusion...

Bad news:
A. Stability:

"The exhibitor at the Asus stand was virtually dripping with sweat as he struggled to cope with the crap that the set-up guys must have put him through. Are you confident in the reliability of your Asus board? Well, I'm not so confident in this popular motherboard maker, not anymore. Asus's computer demos were, when I initially arrived to take photos, freezing every three or four minutes (including reboot time!!).
In the photos above, the Thunderbird/Athlon is in the middle of a scandisk run after a reboot. The Spitfire/Duron is hopelessly frozen. Looks like I picked the wrong time to walk by...."

Comment: Same "stability" problem... very bad.
AMD' systems/platform engineering, are you listening?

B. Marketing:
"The photograph above is midway through the demo, in which hundreds or thousands of computer generated Athlons are falling down similar to very precisely placed dominos. I'm not sure if AMD is suggesting that Athlons get a lot of down time (just kidding!), but the sequence was effective in adding total amusement to my PC Expo trip."

Comment: The falling domino was certainly not the best
idea. AMD marketing is showing signs of improvements,
but still sucks (sorry Mani for the foul language).

Regards,
- Ali
