Johnd, >But when I see the leading indicators such as reading on chip book to bills, and the more recent statements from CFO Connors and the the rest of MSFT gang (such as the VPs talking at the investor conferences) I see more conifdence in fundamentals.

There are some (maybe just one) that think the semiconductor boom may be peaking, and he's even talking about a slowdown in 6 to 9 months. I think he's (Salomon Smith Barney's Joseph) out for a grandstand play, and otherwise full of it. Several analysts came out since Wednesday, saying that also. The PC and Intel compatible server industries are both very healthy, with Intel sold out of a lot of Pentium III and Xeon types, probably for quite a while. This and Intel's "fabbing up", at least 2 billion beyond budget, probably more like 3.5, this year, all has to be good for Microsoft.

Mr. Market seems to agree lately.

Tony
