The Network Connection Receives $10 Million - $13 Million Pact for AirView
ALPHARETTA, Ga., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Network Connection, Inc. (Nasdaq:TNCX) (TNCX) announced today the receipt of a Letter of Commitment, subject to a definitive agreement on schedule and certification requirements, valued at $10 million to $13 million to equip the fleet of aircraft and manage content services for a to-be-named European commercial airline with AirView(R), its advanced in-flight entertainment (IFE) and cabin management system (CMS).
The AirView system will be installed on ten (10) aircraft, beginning in late 1997. The AirView system will support fully digital personal interactive entertainment and video/audio on demand, telephony integration and business services all simultaneously, independently and with full user control to each passenger seat, as well as host flight crew and cabin management LAN application services at the same time.
``This program is of major significance in acceptance of AirView in the commercial aircraft marketplace for the advantages in delivering the highest quality of service to airline passengers rather than only entertainment,'' said Wil Riner, TNCX Chairman and CEO. ``This marketplace demands the small size, low weight, low power consumption and high performance network services that AirView delivers.
``We have made tremendous progress in our sales and marketing efforts in the last year,'' said Riner, ``and are currently in advanced discussions with other commercial airline, train, cruise ship and hotel operators, and manufacturers which are now realizing the advanced features, superior performance and improved quality of service our systems provide.''
TNCX designs, manufactures and distributes the Cheetah(R) family of video server platforms which enable the storage and delivery of up to 700 hours of digital video/audio data to up to 300 simultaneous video/audio users over local area networks. Cheetah(R) servers are used to bring interactive, on- demand, full-motion video training, education and entertainment to the networked client computers in the corporate, home, educational and train (TrainView(R)), hotel (InnView(R)), aircraft (AirView(R)) and cruise ship (CruiseView(TM)) travel related entertainment and transport environments.
