Agilent Technologies Introduces Improved Solutions for Combinatorial Chemistry, Drug Development, and Natural Products Analysis
Business Wire - July 07, 2000 11:17 PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 7, 2000--Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today introduced a fully automated, integrated hardware and software system that speeds the collection, analysis, confirmation, and purification of chemical samples in the life sciences.
With the capacity to handle and store over 4,600 samples unattended, it offers the pharmaceutical industry increased throughput for drug discovery, drug development, and clinical testing of new drugs.
An Integrated System for High Sample Throughput
Agilent's proven 1100 Series modules and systems for high-performance liquid chromatography are combined with the Agilent 220 micro plate sampler and powerful software to create an integrated system for high sample throughput. The addition of an Agilent 1100 Series LC/MSD mass spectrometer provides molecular weight confirmation and makes possible mass-based fraction collection, sample purification, and purity verification.
Unlike some competing systems, the Agilent solution uses the same micro plate sampler for both sampling and fraction collection. This makes it much easier to reanalyze samples; isolating a single component (purification) based on its molecular weight and then reanalyzing to verify purity. And the sampler accommodates both 96-well and 384-well plates.
Expanded Capabilities
The system can now perform mass-based fraction collection, as well as peak-based or time-base collection. Timing can easily be determined using the delay sensor and chemicals included with the system. This enables faster method development.
New flow injection analysis (FIA) mode can improve throughput for samples that do not require chromatographic separation. The contents of a 96-well plate can be processed in less than one hour. And for convenience, the results can be stored in a single data file.
The system can take advantage of the multi-signal capabilities of the LC/MSD to provide even more information about each sample including positive and negative mass spectra and molecular ion and structural information.
Improved software offers point-and-click ease of use to control sample handling, data analysis, and reporting. Simple, color-coded sample tracking and data evaluation screens summarize the wealth of data.
Availability
All components of this system are expected to be available worldwide in July, 2000.
