OMD,
Thanks for the kind words. Since you responded, I thought I'd try to clarify a couple of the items you mentioned.
1. With respect to Jill's quote - Actually, I tried to get ahold of her, but couldn't and didn't want to delay my response. Obviously, the problem wasn't "immediately fixed" because it broke again, but we were working on it immediately. (btw - I'm a big fan of Intel and Cisco - and a stockholder of both. Your point is noted and logged.)
2. With respect to the Busby questions #8, #9 - Yes, I think we were "talking past each other" as you put it. I wasn't trying to couch my answer, just misunderstood the question a bit. In any case, you're right that the answer is "No, he was not ordered to sanitize anything."
btw - I actually want to take this opportunity to let you all know that John Busby is a phenomenal Product Manager, and he lives, sweats and breathes on behalf of SI and the SI community. Everyone in this community should feel privileged to have him working on your behalf. And, I am confident that as we continue to improve the community aspects of the site, you will come to appreciate his efforts.
3. With respect to question #11 - I can understand how you interpreted it the way you did, so let me try to clarify. As you might imagine, a problem of this type is not a trivial issue. It was compounded by the fact that it was intermittent, i.e. not everyone or every post was affected all the time. That makes it even harder to track down. When we "fixed" it the first time, we did, in fact, fix the bug. But, it was not clear what had "caused" the bug in the first place, or even whether there was, in fact, some other "root cause". We assumed that it was fixed, but were keeping a watchful eye just in case. To borrow from you analogy, we didn't actually expect another "crash".
4. As far as hiring engineers is concerned - budget and headcount is not really the issue. Go2Net is one of the few profitable Internet companies out there. We have open requisitions for engineers. The main problem is simply finding good ones. So, I'll repeat my request. If you know any talented programmers, send their resumes my way.
Thanks again,
Bryan |
