Ted, offhand, I'd say you're taking it all a bit too seriously. Mani has set fairly liberal guidelines, and there hasn't been any indication of him abusing those guidelines. On the other hand, SI Bob has officially washed his hands here, without actually explaining why Albert deserved to be kicked off while the Athwipe guy goes on and on. From personal experience, SI's own editorial policing can be as arbitrary and heavy handed as anything, so I think you have to give Mani the benefit of the doubt.

I also have to second Scumbria, it's just entertainment. Even when the FUDsters are in remission here, it's mostly noise, high volume cheerleading isn't all that informative.

You should do what you feel comfortable with. It's no big deal reading two threads.
