Scumbria, OTOT
From what I read he was very innovative in the mechanical engineering sense as he funded many innovations in the construction of his residences. In those days organised religion was more or less thuggery and they imposed rules on peoples lives and ordered the people and pols around in no uncertain terms, he would be unable to disavow the church. I am quite glad that most people no longer believe in that mumbo jumbo. If you judge belief by watching church attendance.... it is low and getting lower ~5-7% are believers by attending, but ask in a public forum and they all profess to be devout. Many smaller towns have higher rates due to public coercion by the group. In Europe it is well under 5% who attend. In Quebec, Canada, a former Roman Catholic redoubt they cannot even find enough people to maintain the priesthood and they have to parachute in African priests, same in places in the USA, and it does not go down well. The youth are deserting religion in droves. Good thing too.
