Jim & All! First I would like to thank all of you for your prayers & good wishes for my wife Mary Ann. She also sends her thanks to all of you! I think now she has a deeper understanding of why I spend so much time on the computer, that being the fact that I am associated with such caring & wonderful folks the likes of all of you! The latest news on Mary is as follows. She has had numerous tests done this past week. I'm not sure how much I told you in my last post but let me summarize. She has had 2 cat scans, 1 vascular scan of the neck to check the arteries( no problem there). 1 vascular scan of her legs( no problem there) although she complains of pain her legs from time to time. The 2nd cat scan revealed that what caused the stroke was a large blood clot in right side of her brain. This left the left side of her body much weakened( but fotunately not paralyzed). She has showed continuos improvement day by day! Yesterday morning she had a test which involved sticking a probe down her throat to check things around her heart & last night she had an MRI to confirm what they found in heart. The doctor said the heart has 4 main arteries & we are all born with a hole in one of them but in most cases they close up. In Mary Ann's case it never closed up but a flap or something covered it( I think). You know how it is when the doctor explains things & you try to comprehend everything! Anyway, It seems the clot came from her leg & tried to go thru her heart(the heart directs the blood thru the lungs normally but in her case it found it's way out of the hole & found it's way to the brain(I think) To make this already long story short the doctor put her back on Coumadin & said she will probably have to take it for the rest of her life(the fact that she stopped taking her Coumadin medicine for the past month is probably what caused the stroke to happen in the first place). She said when she stopped taking it her legs felt better( moral here is: don't trade a headache for a heart attack)! They are keeping her in the hospital a few more days to see how she reacts with the Coumadin. If everything is alright the next step is Therapy to try to regain all her strength on her left side. Once again God Bless you all for caring & your prayers!!!!!!
