Cat Update. Mama cat has fallen in love with Oliver. This is a big change from her former behavior, which was to attack him like a Nike missile. She follows him around, making musical "whirrt-whirrt" noises, and rubbing herself against nearby items of furniture or the floor. Oliver, who is a large black altered male, now has a rather haunted look, and wears his ears slightly flat against his head at all times. He runs away and hides under furniture, and mama cat perches nearby and whirrt-whirrts at him. At night Oliver either sleeps in Chris' room, with the door closed, or outside. When doors are opened, mama cat comes running up, just in case Oliver was on the other side. When he sees her, I think he thinks, "oh no, it's her again!"

William the Conqueror (aka William of Orange) is a growler. When he chases cat toys around the room, he growls constantly - "arrrrrrrrrr" "arrrrrrrrrrrr" "arrrrrrrrrr". Deep-pitched gutteral growls, the sort of noise that cats make at each other when they are thinking about having a fight. I've had dozens, maybe a couple of hundred, cats and kittens over the years, and I've never known, or even heard of, a growler. Seems like it would not be a good idea to be a growler, as it would make it very difficult to sneak up on birds or rodents, but luckily for him the only things he needs to sneak up on are kibble and toy mice.

Something else new - cat felt. If you put a largish quantity of soft cat fur in your front pants pocket, and walk around rubbing it, it will turn into cat felt. Very soft. The boys discovered this.
