Shares of Scientific Atlanta (SFA) have more than tripled since the beginning of the year, outperforming every other member of the S&P 500, according to Evans Kissi of IndividualInvestor.com. “If interactive television ever does fulfill the forecasts that have been set down for it, Scientific Atlanta is all but assured of being one of the companies that benefits the most from the technology,” said Kissi. The company's customers include cable TV providers like MediaOne Group Inc. (UMG), Charter Communications (CHTR) and Time Warner (TWX), which accounts for more than 16% of sales, is the largest.

Jim Jubak of MoneyCentral.MSN.com recommends the following growth stocks: Applied Materials (AMAT), E*Trade Group (EGRP), JDS Uniphase (JDSU), Metromedia Fiber Network (MFNX), Network Appliance (NTAP), Oracle (ORCL), PMC-Sierra (PMCS), RF Micro Devices (RFMD), America Online (AOL) and Wind River Systems (WIND). Jubak advises long-term investors seeking to begin positions in these stocks to look for any kind of short-term weakness that is enough to drive down the price of the stock, but isn't enough to change the fundamental long-term story.

Bargain hunters should take a look at blue chip software company, BMC Software (BMCS), according to Pat Dorsey of Morningstar.com. “You're not going to double your money in a week or anything, but it's pretty rare to see a technology company with such an industry-leading position selling at three times book value,” said Dorsey. “This one will take some patience, but it should be worth it.”

Converging television and the Internet may take longer than expected for NBC Internet (NBCI), according to Steve Harmon of SiliconInvestor.com. “Now that a new CEO (from GE) has assumed the helm, I believe it may take a few years for NBC Internet to find its bearing,” said Harmon. “To me, the issues facing NBCi include branding (should keep Xoom and Snap brands and extend to more of them, each a distinct Web experience, just as NBC Television has "Friends," "Dateline," "NBA on NBC" -- each has a branded presence).”

SmartMoney.com’s Anna Snider reports a boom in insider buying in the following companies: Healtheon/WebMD (HLTH), Adelphia Communications (ADLAC), Adelphia Business Solutions (ABIZ) and BEA Systems (BEAS). “Not all insider-buying stories end happily, of course,” said Snider. “But there's something to be said for following the folks in the know -- especially in a volatile market.”

There is an opportunity to be the leader in bridging the linguistic and cultural barriers that come with the global spread of the Internet. According to Mitch Ratcliffe of WorldlyInvestor.com, Lionbridge Technologies (LIOX) and Bowne & Co. (BNE) “may be poised for dramatic growth and are potentially dominant leaders in this very fragmented market. As the demand for online content and applications grows, these types of services will become a part of most companies' online business strategy.”
