According to Jacobs, all of the CDMA varieties are very similar, "flavors", as he calls them. I think he means that designing chip sets to work on more than one of these flavors wouldn't be difficult for QCOM. ALmost all 3rd generation stuff will be some type of CDMA.
I strongly suggest you listen to the Bloomberg interview yourself and make your own conclusions. Personally, Dr. J has always seemed a straight shooter to me, kind of the opposite of Larry Ellison, so I take what he says seriously.
