Michael,

I'm not a religious person, but with the exception of fanatics and those who take everything that is written literally, I respect most religions and the people who choose to practice them.

There were and still are many atrocities made in the name of religion. I like to attribute those atrocities to the failure and stupidity of man and not a condemnation of religion itself. The irony is that most here who fail to see that Man is responsible and not religion are the first to blame Man when defending gun control with their "Guns don't kill...People kill" rhetoric.

The contributions made by religion in teaching morals and civility far outweigh the crimes committed by the Men of the cloth. Without religion, our South American friend would likely still be practicing Cannibalism and human sacrifices.

Like I said, I don't practice religion but I do strongly believe in the Ten Commandments (all, except possibly coveting thy neighbors wife...<g>). Just imagine, if everyone would live by those rules we would have no need for jails, lawyers, judges, soldiers and police forces. Now isn't that a nice thought?
