Since 3X/MC (and its higher data throughput to qualify for ITU 3G minimum standards at 2Mbps) is a ways off,

Despite the technical inaccuracy of my statement as to why HDR was developed, your comment above still leaves me with the question of why 3X is not ready yet? Is it that there are technical issues to be resolved? Or is it lack of wide enough spectrum? Clearly my lack of understanding is showing.

And if 3X is not quite ready yet, how much further behind is W-CDMA?
