| Banter is like a cooling breeze. But also, the good life is made up of details, both in its moral and material aspects. If I spend a little more time helping my son with his homework, or calling my mother, I am marginally a better person, and all of those decisions add up. If I have a big cup for my iced tea, or burn my own music CDs, I am marginally happier, and all of those things add up as well. Sometimes salad dressing can be like the last field goal in a close game. Once, I was pretty depressed because my wife was on a business trip for about a week. I took my son to Baltimore's Little Italy, had a good meal, and took a drive through the affluent, attractive part of town. I felt better before finishing my veal marsala, and actually good before the drive was done........... |
