Up here, I think the really "proud" thing would be to be a member of the RCMP. For the most part, they have quite a proud history in terms of law enforcement and national security. They do their PR bit too with the RCMP Musical Ride. It's on tour all of the time across Canada, appearing at large and small events. Lots of opportunity for public interaction with the officers.... There are questions about the cost, but I think it's definitely a good thing... We have the Snowbirds for the CAF too, but our military is stressed out by peace-keeping missions that we don't really have the manpower or the "machinery" to handle. BTW, one of the best "military PR events" we've seen up here was when the military was assigned to provide emergency services during the ice storm in January 1998... That was very, very good for their image.
