You have my sympathies.

You are doing the right things.

I have a fond last memory of my cat George, who we inherited with the farm we lived on for about 6 years. The darn guy was almost withered away from distemper, but he made the effort not to go off and die, and came to his favorite spot in the front yard, and purred and looked me right in the eyes to tell me I was going to be ok. He was ok with being put down after that.
