Mon 10 Jul 2000 News Release
Mr. Nigel Stokes reports
DataMirror has established a new field office in Hong Kong to serve as the
base of operations for the company's expansion into the Asia Pacific
region.
Angelo Lai has been appointed as vice-president, Asia Pacific with
responsibility for DataMirror's Asia Pacific operations. In this role , Mr.
Lai will be instrumental in leading DataMirror into the diversified Asian
and Pacific rim markets covering over 15 countries from Japan to Australia
to India. Prior to joining DataMirror, Mr. Lai was a 16-year veteran of
various IBM organizations worldwide with sales, marketing and technical
expertise in many international projects. Originally from Hong Kong, Mr.
Lai is multilingual and has previously engaged in business development
activities across China and other Asia Pacific countries.
"There has never been a better time for DataMirror to expand into Asia
Pacific," said Nigel Stokes, chairman, president and chief executive
officer of DataMirror. "We feel that all the indicators point towards a
strong economic rebound in Asia Pacific markets as several regional
business centres focus on building or expanding their e-business and
Internet infrastructure. Already, a number of multinational companies in
the region have adopted DataMirror's real-time data capture, transform and
flow (CTF) technology for e-business, business intelligence and other
distributed data applications."
Maintaining the momentum of strong DataMirror growth in North America and
Europe, this expansion is a natural step in DataMirror's evolution as the
company broadens the global use of its technology for enterprise-wide data
replication, replenishment and resiliency. With a combination of direct and
indirect coverage, DataMirror will work to establish brand-name awareness
of DataMirror software in five focus markets: China, Hong Kong, Singapore,
Australia and Japan.
"We are currently building our sales, consulting and product support
infrastructure to address local market needs and better serve our customers
in Asia Pacific," said Mr. Lai. "In terms of product development, we will
continuously enhance our product offerings to address specific local market
demands. We are committed to building a solid regional presence to deliver
long-term value to customers, shareholders and alliances."
