Paul and All, DEC V. INTC.

My take on dec is that dec had those patents as an "insurance policy"
against intel just in case intel would step over the boundaries. Intel
pretty much proclaimed war on all companies that deal with amd and
as you know dec anounced their k6 designs. Intel openly supported
dell and gateway for being pure intel shops and offerred special deals
tomcompaq in order to make them an intel shop(sort of). That put dec
in disadvantage and probably they contacted amd and cyrx/ibm and asked
them if they can supply enough parts for their intel compatible
products and after that dec activated an "insurance policy".

That cought intel by surprise because intel would not think that
anyone might actually retaliate to their monopolistticactions.
(Keep in mind that word monopoly wasmentioned by dec many times

even though that it has no relevance to patents per say). IBM and
COMPAQ saw an opportunity for cyrx to move in with a law suit as well. ( I do
not think that cyrx in a position to take on intel without side help.) So cyrx sue
intel for two more infringements on cyrx's patents.

Any comments?
