oh, and since when has gold been around? remember Barings Bank? that one was almost 150 years older than JPM....

and it sunk on smaller risk relative to its share capital.

seriously, i also think it's highly unlikely that JPM goes belly-up. it certainly has proven itself even in difficult environments.

however, with 8 times its equity tied up in derivatives, i sometimes wonder...accidents in finance DO happen now and then...
