It seems to me that the NSA is an important function for government. Money spent on intelligence is usually well spent. Do you recall that Colonel Stimson when Secretary of State shut down the Black Chamber because "Gentlemen didn't read other gentlemen's mail?" Many Naval experts believe CINCPAC G-2's reading of the Japanese Naval Code (especially at Midway) shortened the war at least a year (and some think it may have reversed the outcome). Remember that when we were wasting millions on the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials the Japanese were building aircraft carriers to sink our fleet and murder thousands of American sailors and marines by surprise. Things like memorials should be built from pennies from school children and car washing parties. They should reflect the pride and gratitude of the people for our heroes and warriors. They should be mostly paid for by draft dodgers IMO. They should be built voluntarily from our surplus, rather than money diverted from our security or taxes extorted from our citizens.
