Perhaps a better way to put it would be to say "Teaching people to be empathetic and not to maim or kill or physically harm any fellow human being (except in self defense) is a useful and socially expedient thing to do". I think if we START there, and DO that we will have done a tremendous amount. You can do it if you are religious and you can do that if you aren't.

Fine.

You can even believe in the sacred cow, or the flying owl, but the key word is being consistent.

My problem starts when religious people begin to push on children concepts that are clearly in conflict or that although a scientific explanation exists, such is ignored, or denied. At the very least it should be simply "considered". From there, it goes down hill depending of the degree of evil, ignorance, or denial/delusion.

What you suggest is perfectly valid... the problem is that those with the power to start such teachings, for the most part are very adamant to move one inch from their beliefs.

Read my post to Karen in this reference, as it applies to your comments too.

. I suppose we could follow that up with teaching people not to assault each other in non-physical ways too. But that's a bit more iffy- and it will take a good long time to teach people to be less physically aggressive.

Easier said than done... We need to re-train ourselves, education of the masses needs to be achieved in order to have a winning chance at the start, otherwise such idea is a "non-starter".

Population growth has a great effect in the possibilities of success of what you expressed here.

Remember the example of the rat population in a box/room when the population grows to the point where there is no longer the "necessary space"... rats begin to attack each other...

Are we reaching that stage ? Will we reach that stage ? How do the current populations get such education in order to avoid reaching the "killing rat stage" ?

May be I suffer of paranoia. [but evidence supports my theory].

What I have expressed in the past about the concepts of "flags", "nations", borders" etc. is based on this scenario under which previous accepted practices of general "rules of conduct" may not necessarily be applicable if we want to succeed in interacting peacefully with one another.

Just my opinion.
