It's possible for the same reason that analyst report headlines in the tech arena almost always read: "Company XYZ beat our expectations, just as we expected."

The only reason that any of this crap is still floated is that the average investor in the market today has the IQ of a turnip. You've got to keep in mind that the overwhelming majority of investors will never, ever, question what they are told. Even when lead to financial ruin, like Voltaire and his mindless culties, people tend to STILL not question authority. It's why nations can fight wars as a few individuals battle for power. Most people are just genetically predisposed to doing exactly what they are told. Not many can think for themselves.
