But we aren't there yet. And we have behaviors that rats don't have that allow us to deal with overcrowding by developing sophisticated social patterns.
Well I sure hope so...

Massachusetts father pleads innocent in hockey rink killing Thomas Junta could receive a 20-year sentence on the manslaughter charge Faces manslaughter charge in beating death of another dad July 10, 2000 Web posted at: 7:10 p.m. EDT (2310 GMT)
READING, Massachusetts -- The Massachusetts father of a youth hockey player pleaded innocent on Monday to manslaughter charges that he allegedly beat another team member's father to death following an argument over rough play.
Thomas Junta, 42, of Reading, Massachusetts, was released on $5,000 bail after turning himself in to police earlier in the day.
His head bowed, Junta said nothing to reporters outside Woburn District Court.
On Wednesday, Junta allegedly beat 40-year-old Michael Costin unconscious at the Burbank Ice Arena in Reading as children as young as 10 years old watched. Costin, who lived in nearby Lynnfield, Massachusetts, was declared brain dead Thursday and removed from a ventilator Friday -- the same day Junta notified authorities he was leaving for a vacation.
An arrest warrant was issued Sunday for Junta, who originally faced charges of assault and battery. He could receive a 20-year sentence on the manslaughter charge.
Junta's mother said her son has expressed remorse, the Boston Globe reported Monday.
"At least it's not murder. Thank God almighty," said Mary Junta. "I'm so sorry the whole thing happened -- manslaughter is no joke, either."
Michael Costin was declared brain dead on Thursday and removed from a ventilator Friday Victim beaten unconscious Costin had been on the ice with a group of youngsters, all about 10 years old, including his three sons and Junta's son. The hockey game was supposed to be non-contact, but police say Junta got agitated when things got rough and some of the players engaged in checking.
Reading Police Lt. Michael Cloonan said Junta and Costin began arguing with each other on the rink and moved into a locker room.
A rink manager threw Junta out, but he returned, confronting Costin in the rink's lobby, police said.
Junta, who is 6-foot-1 and weighs 275 pounds, knocked the 6-foot, 150-pound Costin to the floor and punched him in the head, police said. Another adult broke up the fight, but Costin was unconscious.

Can you belive the comment above that I bolded ??
I think we are already going insane.
Our society is fairly consistent- and probably, so is the Cuban system.
Cuba is a dictatorship, so it will be consistent with whatever Castro and his compadres feel like.
The problem is when you want to change from one system to another. Most humans are too inflexible to tolerate change very well- especially "rule" changes, in religious, or social rules. When these kinds of "rules" are changing too fast for people to adjust we get societal upheavals
Yes, you are right, however, we better accept and learn how to change, or else take the consequences...
- I say this speaking strictly as an alien observer of the human race.
A nice thought, being an alien (the extraterrestrial type) sounds great. [particularly if you have a fast and strong space craft]
So if you want to change the rules, be warned, there are big costs.
I have lived with change all my life, I have no problem with it. But frankly, I have no interest in changing others, that is their own ticket and choice. I am no baby-sitter. |
