A crutch can be deeply enriching for those who find it necessary. It will always be incomprehensible to those who do not. There is no inherent problem with this, as long as all concerned agree to live and let live, but when those who find the religious experience enriching decide that anything that is so good for them must necessarily be good for everyone, and try to impose it on those who do not need or want it, there will be problems.
