People are less cruel than they have been in the past. The PC thing is one, rather odd, example of that. In schoolyards in suburbia violence is way down- because it has been redefined. All those shoving matches and the really horrible name calling is no longer tolerated as a "kids will be kids" activity- it is defined now as unacceptable and it does not occur as it did when I was a child. I do think violence in urban areas is much more extreme, though.

Grown up people are less cruel about other people- people no longer feel comfortable using racial epithets publicly. I think this is a great step forward- since speech/thought precedes action- and when you change speech you change thinking and when you change thinking you change actions.

I think there is much cause for hope.
