LearnCom Awarded Three Year Diversity-in-the-Workplace Contract by General Dynamics
SILVER SPRING, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2000--LearnCom (LRCM), through its wholly-owned subsidiary, BNA Communications Inc. (BNAC), has begun execution of the first phase of its 3-year partnership with General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, by beginning to deliver a customized diversity workshop to 3,000 employees at nine sites across the U.S.
After an exhaustive nationwide review, GDLS selected BNAC to conduct all the assessment, customization and training work for their diversity initiative. Working in close collaboration with GDLS' Diversity Council, which was appointed by the President, BNAC completed interviews, surveys, focus groups, pilot workshops, and customized training for senior level staff and managers. When the employee rollout of the training is completed this summer, all of GDLS' workforce will have gone through diversity awareness training.
Julie Pierce Williams, Vice President/General Manager of BNAC's Consulting Group, said ``BNAC is excited to partner with GDLS to customize and roll out their diversity awareness training for general employees. GLDS recognizes the importance of training all groups within their organization.''
The GDLS diversity initiative is driven by their business objectives and strategic plan focusing on customer satisfaction and organizational effectiveness. GDLS has been undergoing many changes in its work environment. Where employees once worked alone they now frequently work in teams. Where employees used to be located in the U.S., they are now around the world. Where the GDLS workforce used to look very much alike, it now consists of employees of differing genders, races, religions, physical characteristics and abilities, languages, ages, ethnic backgrounds and cultures.``
``To be a successful global corporation, Land Systems must embrace a multicultural environment where differences are not viewed as barriers but as strengths, improve its working relationships, and increase its effectiveness as a business,'' said Patrick J. Sullivan, GDLS' Vice President of Human Resources and Administration.``
The mission is ``to educate the employees of Land Systems to help them recognize and appreciate the unique characteristics of our workforce and our customers, and to influence the use of diversity as a tool to enhance our competitive position in the global marketplace.''
Tony Patterson, Diversity Council Team Leader, said, ``BNAC seemed to have all of the tools necessary to bring about the culture changes we were looking for. Yes, there were certainly other companies out there, but the team seemed to be a good match. They had all of the key ingredients.''
