11:44 ET Rambus (RMBS) 90 1/2 -6 3/4: -- Update -- Sources telling us that Morgan Stanley Dean Witter out in defense of RMBS after story makes the rounds that a PC133-based Intel chipset outperformed the Rambus RDRAM-based chipset; no confirmation on the MSDW call yet.

11:21 ET Rambus (RMBS) 87 7/8 -9 3/8: Stock getting hit by two stories in The Register, an industry site based in the UK. Primary concern is a story suggesting that five large semiconductor firms are preparing to file an antitrust case against RMBS similar to the case recently dropped by Hitachi; a second story dated July 9 claims that Intel's i815e chipset (with PC133 memory) outperformed its 820 chipset (with Rambus RDRAM). The Register is known as something of an anti-Rambus publication -- they hit the stock for 12 points with a story on July 19, 1999.
