Seems to me that the deal was mutual. Clearly SDLI didn't need JDSU and probably wouldn't have needed a bigger fish for several years. Or possibly at all. They are VERY well positioned. And VERY well managed. So well managed, in fact, that the CEO probably realized that the landscape changes so fast -- perhaps too fast -- and that SDLI, as a relatively 'smaller' player (when compared to potential comp from NT, CSCO, Alcatel, LU) would be at some sort of a disadvantage when the next round of consolidation took place. As for JDSU, it probably didn't like the prospect of a SDLI enhanced GLW. Not at all. Such a company could have given JDSU a run for its money. A very serious run. All this said, I realize there appears to be some apprehension about this deal. SEC. Integration.... IMO that will pass. This deal is too good. And management of BOTH companies are some of the best we will come across.....
