NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Bear Stearns & Co. analyst Alex M. Cena
initiated coverage of Harmonic Lightwaves Inc. (HLIT) with an
"attractive" rating.
"Harmonic Lightwaves is an investment vehicle that may be purchased
for those seeking long-term exposure into the cable industry's move
toward more fiber-based networks to provide improved and expanded
services," Cena said in a research note. "At this time, only about 20%
of all cable facilities are based on fiber-optic technology."
Cena expects the Sunnyvale, Calif., supplier of optical transmitters
and receivers to earn 65 cents a share in 1997 and 85 cents a share in
1998.
The analyst has a 12-month price target of $22 to $25.
The Nasdaq-listed shares were up $0.25 at $19.625 on light volume.
