I am sorry to feel a sense of bitterness in your last several posts. I think Edwarda would tell us all to get back on track.
I had not gotten the sense on this thread that there was a clear commitment that the first project would be a Hunger Site day. I agree with CB's reasoning that such a day, either on her birthday or on the anniversary of the day she joined SI (they are a day apart) would be highly appropriate.
IMO, fwiw, a clear statement that you and Jane were collecting donations specifically to fund such a day on the Hunger Site would garner serious interest. However, it would need to be linked to a page or pages talking about Edwarda (the tribute previously posted would be a good start, some pictures would be wonderful, etc.) And SI people could be offered a chance to write other tributes to her to be posted there. I don't have a web site and know nothing about setting them up, so I couldn't help there. But there were suggestions here that others can and would.
Also, we would want permission of her family to do this; probably not legally necessary, but I think only right and proper, particularly since their input into the site would be valuable, and we would want the okay to use her real name, which is hardly secret here anymore but wouldn't, IMO, want to be broadcast to all Hunger Site visitors without her family's okay.
If it were clear to me that there were resources committed to doing the Hunger Site day and associated website, and that the family supported it, I would certainly commit to support that financially, and I think others would. I suspect that you could easily get the $2,00 - $3,000 it would take to do this committed here.
I do appreciate the efforts you and Jane are making here. This is intended to be a helpful response, not criticism of your efforts, and I hope is taken that way. And I know it's easy to make suggestions and sit back and rely on others to carry them out, so hope you aren't annoyed that I make these suggestions but don't offer help in carrying them out other than promising support.
Are there others here would would commit now to help fund a day for Edwarda on the Hunger Site if an approprite web site can be put together to link to, and if the family's approval can be obtained? |
