LLY has NOT dropped anything. It is just beginning. The patent is specifically for use of the combination for the treatment of sepsis as defined in the patent application. I am not able to judge the value of applying for this type of patent but XOMA holds a patent(s) for the use of BPI to treat meningococcemia. Your example, however, makes sense, and seems totally logical to me.
