OT, Paul, <They don't mention that Intel's taxes - and their employees' taxes - help perpetuate the welfare state mentality that the "native" Oregonians so dearly love.>

Welfare state? Luckily, this is the Portland metropolitan area, not Salem or Eugene. ;-) (Apologies to those of you who live in Salem or Eugene.)

By the way, I'm still wondering whether our local politicians will have the foresight to use the additional tax dollars to expand the infrastructure. Specifically, I'm thinking about the back roads of Hillsboro as well as Highway 26 (the main highway between Intel and downtown Portland). Already the local roads, which were originally built for an agricultural community, are becoming quite congested. Now with a new campus, there will potentially be a few thousand more Intel employees here in Washington County. That's not even including the new businesses and development to support that many more employees.

Personally, I don't think traffic is all that bad, since I'm an urban boy from the East, and I'm used to worse. But the "native" Oregonians already hate it, and they're going to hate it even more if the local government doesn't take real steps real soon to expand the suburban infrastructure.
