The press release in question is dated February 01, 1999. At that time I don't think that Interdigital Communications had formally completely abandoned BCDMA. Nonetheless, I tend to agree with your assessment on IDCC's value to NOK, and for that matter, NOK could get lucky, and IDCC might come up with something valuable. FWIW, to date, nobody seems to think IDCC's IPR is worth very much. There have been some agreements with IDCC made by various players, but they have been relatively small from a cash perspective, and IDCC just can't even convince any analysts that they have any significant revenue streams from their IPR, much less convincing any wireless players (or vice-versa). For the newbies out there, be very wary of posts from corpgold, and Bill Daglish. They tend to be a cute little tag-team that try to lend legitimacy for their statements. There are some other rather odd characters amongst the IDCC longs (of course, I suspect that some could say that there are some odd characters amongst the QCOM longs), but be careful when you are researching IDCC (if you take the time to do so) that you verify the sources, rather than simply accepting as truth the comments made by some unknown internet poster (such as myself for that matter, this goes for any due diligence).
Good luck
As always, just MHO.
