"re: improving the 56k V.90 modem" Shhhh! I was hoping if we ignored it, it would go away. Ya know, there are sooooo many large consortiums with vested interests in incremental improvements to their existing empires, it's hard to imagine there being enough independent, unencumbered critical mass to get REAL broadband. Utilities may really be the best hope since they have no legacy data networks to coddle, yet they have the rights of way.
