Barringer Technologies Inc. Receives Final FAA
Approval for Automated Baggage Trace Detection
System
WARREN, NJ--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 2000--Barringer Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: BARR - news), announced
today that the Federal Aviation Administration has funded the final phase of its grant to Barringer to develop, build and test an
automated trace-based baggage detection system. The value of the grant is approximately $525,000, and completion is
expected in the first quarter of 2001.
Kenneth S. Wood, President of Barringer Technologies commented, ``The first two phases of this multi-year development
program required the conceptual development and detailed design of an automated baggage detector, using our core
IONSCAN® technology and novel sample collection and preconcentration techniques licensed from Sandia National Labs.
We are pleased to announce the FAA has granted authorization to proceed with the final phase, which calls for the building and
testing of a prototype unit. Our automated baggage trace detection system will be capable of processing up to 720 bags per
hour, which meets checked baggage screening operational requirements. We expect that the system will be commercially
available by the end of the first quarter of 2001 and will sell for approximately $250,000.''
