AURORA, Ill. (Dow Jones)--Westell Technologies Inc.'s (WSTL) Customer
Premise
Equipment unit agreed to provide ADSL modems to Primus Telecommunications
Group
Inc.'s (PRTL) Shore.Net unit.
Financial terms weren't disclosed.
In a press release Monday, Westell said it will supply its WireSpeed DSL
modems to Shore.Net, which recently unveiled a comprehensive ADSL service
plan
to customers beginning in June.
Shore.Net will launch its ADSL services in the Boston area, then expand the
service throughout Massachusetts and eventually throughout New England where
Bell Atlantic (BEL) has deployed DSL. Shore.Net's ADSL services will include
Bell Atlantic's ADSL access packaged with Shore.Net's Internet access.
Westell said its WireSpeed DSL modems will supply Shore.Net customers with
an
"always-on" high-speed Internet connection over existing phone lines at
speeds
up to 140 times faster than 56K modems.
Shore.Net is an Internet services provider.
Westell makes and licenses DSL systems and value-added CPE and makes
telecommunications access products. The company's shares closed at 20 15/16,
up
1 15/16, or 10.2%, on Nasdaq volume of 4.72 million shares. Average daily
volume is about 1.45 million.
