"I guess I made a leap that with the fundamental tenets of Libertarianism (at least as I understand it), that there should be no government interference in victimless issues, that you would not want government involvement"

Libertarians are not anarchists, not by any stretch of the imagination. Also, you must differentiate between Federal and state involvement.

"Do you think that the number of addicts, or the amount of drug related crimes on innocent victims of society as a result of legalization would be less? "

The number of addicts is irrelevant. Freedom means letting people make their own choices, and that includes bad choices.

The amount of crime on innocent victims would certainly decrease. There is sufficient empirical evidence that this issue is not even debateable. Regardless, someone who does not commit any of these offenses should not be put in jail because someone else does. Just because one man gets high and beats his wife, does not mean that another man does the same. But if that's the crux of your argument, then alcohol needs to be made illegal as well.

"if the government is involved, do you not think the drugs will be taxed...therefore not cheap....ah, another way to grow government."

Now that's just plain silly.

Barb
