I, too, enjoy Steven's posts. They tend to remain calm and organized regardless of what's being thrown at him. I admire that; it may be the journalist in him, but I prefer to think it is just his nature. I don't find him negative at all and I love his apprroach to life and his sense of humor. He is just very blunt about not needing a religious-mystical explanation of his world to find meaning in it.

After reading the God thread for a couple of weeks, I have come away even more convinced that we have to keep church and state separate. Completely. Totally. I have always been sort of easy-going about it--- but no more. Sorry to all the good people whom that offends and who don't believe that this is fair, or that this violates the intent of our founding fathers (although I don't believe it does) or betrays the principles on which we are founded (I don't believe that, either). The committed Christians I've been reading are intolerant and abusive even to each other- I can't imagine what they might do in an educational setting. Well, unfortunately I can imagine, because my son took his share of ragging from some of the very Christian teachers in his high school.

Yesterday I heard a story on the news about a pastor who refused to marry an interracial couple. He said it was HIS church and no one could make him.
Isn't that fascinating? Not that that particular denomination had a rule based on some interpretation of scripture, or that the church was founded on White Supremacy beliefs and it was written in their constitution or whatever-
just that it was HIS church.
Wonder what God thinks about that!
:)
