Excellent post, Dr. Mosher. Thanks. I am long JDSU with an average cost/sh of $22.

Here is the statement that raises questions for me:

When you set the standards, the industry standardizes on your product to foster hyper growth of their markets as well.

The photonics industry is very much based on open standards, I believe. So, though JDSU is enjoying a larger share of an expanding market, it doesn't follow that the industry is "standardizing" on their products. Instead, JDSU products are compliant with open standards. So JDSU does not enjoy the benefit of "proprietary open" products, but simply "compliant" products.

JDSU's proprietary assets may lie in its manufacturing processes, but not in its products.
