MicroE: I wrote an article in Asian Communications (belive it was April edition) concerning the various options in the Far East. In this article I wrote that there would be an interesting prospect of cdma2000 and WCDMA, as operators migrate and also get new spectrum.

To answer who needs new spectrum, the thing is the operators want it not just for the new services (bandwidth hungry) they can offer but also for 'standardised' roaming. Dual band is by its nature cheaper than dual mode, just look at the success of dual band GSM roaming (900 & 1800)in this regard.

Cheers,
M
